Developing Safeguarded AI with ARIA
Net AI has been selected as one of a small number of Creators in the Safeguarded AI programme of the UK Advanced Research + Invention Agency (ARIA). We are honoured to be involved in such a prestigious programme that develops the safety standards needed for transformational AI.
ARIA is dedicated to funding cutting-edge research that will shape the future — addressing critical challenges across the economy, healthcare, and climate change. In the telecom sector, network operators and equipment vendors are racing to reduce energy consumption and the carbon footprint of the continuously expanding network infrastructure. Net AI is proud to have been awarded a £500k research contract by ARIA to play a key role in this transformation.
As an ARIA Creator, Net AI will pursue breakthroughs in the development of a safeguarded AI that revolutionises how energy is saved in production Radio Access Networks (RANs). We will build the constituents required to design, train, validate, and test AI-based solutions for effective and automated radio element switch-on/off in modern RANs, aiming to remove data sharing barriers and set the stage for AI operation in the safety-critical telecom domain with quantitative safety guarantees.
Europe’s bold €200 billion pledge to artificial intelligence earlier this month (read more: EU Commission Press Release) aligns perfectly with the exciting trajectory of Net AI, who celebrates its 4th year in business. Net AI’s collaboration with the ARIA programme kicks off against this background of pivotal AI investment. CTO Marco Fiore explains:
“The partnership between ARIA and Net AI will develop a Safeguarded AI workflow to drive the economic and environmental sustainability of next-generation mobile networks, tackling some of the most pressing challenges in the global telecommunications ecosystem. The solutions developed in this project will ultimately enable the industry to facilitate safe access to sensitive data to drive innovation, and to effectively manage energy-demanding RANs.”
